Rail Systems Industry
Eskişehir has been a pivotal center for Turkey's rail systems industry since the establishment of the first traction workshops, boasting over a century of production and workforce experience. The city stands as a primary hub for both manufacturing and transportation networks in the rail sector. The most prominent institution in this field is the TÜRASAŞ Eskişehir Regional Directorate, operating on a vast area of 540,000 m², with 183,700 m² of covered space. This facility comprises seven integrated factories, including the Locomotive, Bogie, Electric Machines, Engine, Wagon, Machining, and Chemical Processes factories, specializing in the production, maintenance, and repair of various types of rolling stock.
In 2011, under the leadership of TÜLOMSAŞ (now TÜRASAŞ), the Rail Systems Cluster (RSC) was established, bringing together member enterprises engaged in areas such as welded and machined manufacturing, assembly, casting, composite production, metal forming, design, R&D, and product development. The cluster comprises a total of 45 members, with approximately 30 operating in Eskişehir, offering a broad spectrum of services encompassing all processes in the sector.
Eskişehir's strategic location as a logistics hub, its proximity to major ports, sector-specific skilled labor, and strong university-industry collaboration provide companies with significant competitive advantages. The city's extensive and historical experience in rail systems production and services has fostered a substantial ancillary industry, along with accumulated expertise and knowledge. The presence of logistics centers integrated with railways further supports the local ecosystem.
